Tim Williams is an art historian, fine art dealer, consultant and curator based in North Devon and Sussex.
Tim graduated from the University of Sussex with an M.A. in the History of Art and was awarded a Neil MacGregor scholarship with The National Gallery, London. He curated the exhibition Old Masters, New Eyes at Brighton Museum and Art Gallery in 2008 and has written articles on art and culture for The Guardian. He authored the exhibition catalogue for In Pursuit of The Watercolour (Horsham Museum and Art Gallery, 2017), and Waistel Cooper: part one (The Fine Art Society, London & Edinburgh, 2022).
Tim has discovered and identified a number of important paintings in public collections including Brighton Museum & Art Gallery, Cambridge University Library, Guardian News & Media Archive, Walker Art Gallery, Atkinson Art Gallery, and Manchester Art Gallery.
As a dealer Tim has sold works to the National Portrait Gallery, Keswick Museum & Art Gallery, West Somerset Rural Life Museum, The Belcher Foundation and many other institutions worldwide.
In the capacity of a consultant, Tim values and catalogues the monthly fine art & print sales for Toovey’s Antique & Fine Art Auctioneers. In February 2023 a painting that Tim identified as by the important Uruguayan artist Juan Manuel Blanes, sold for £1.48 million, setting a new world record for the artist and becoming the 4th most expensive painting sold at auction outside of London.
