Gerard Gay-Barbier studied at l’École des Beaux-Arts, where he obtained the Diploma with merit in 1964. Subsequently he worked as an illustrator for various French magazines, and went on to teach art at the École Spéciale d’Architecture, from 1970 to his retirement in 2007. As well as an artist he is a highly regarded published poet.
