Description

Garizo do Carmo was born in Lisbon in 1927. Between 1944 and 1948 he studied architecture but subsequently pursued painting. He was part of the “Grupo dos Independentes” in Porto, where he exhibited, together with Fernando Lanhas and Júlio Resende, in the 1st Salon of Abstract and Independent Art. Between 1948 and 1954, he attended the Schools of Fine Arts in Toulouse, Grenoble and the Paris School Ateliers Zavaoni, as well as the Grand Chaumière, studying painting and printmaking. In Paris, he set up a pottery workshop and devoted himself to the graphic arts.
